Now, I most definitely dig The Beatles the most, as they were from Hamburg to Revolver. But I wonder ... What did cats like Ben E King, Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys), Jim "Roger" McGuinn(The Byrds) and Bob Dylan really think of The Beatles at that precise time or in those days? Never mind looking back and adhering to some kind of pop music establishment agenda by which everybody has to say how they immediately recognised, while watching the show or seeing A Hard Day's Night, that The Beatles were unique and were going to change the scene and all that, never mind all that. What about back then? Is it possible that they were either uninterested or bored or disgusted? How come nobody says something like that about their reaction to The Beatles in '64?

1964
It was 43 years ago today that a lot of my fellow Americans first saw The Beatles play. Some had seen them earlier but it's the Ed Sullivan Show that counts, 9 February 1964. Watching the show somebody could have thought Paul was the lead singer, that it was more like Paul & The Beatles. Watching the show cats and chicks making it with the big beat could have dug Ringo's drumming, good timing and right on. Watching the show some of these cats could have felt The Beatles were too pop and not rocking enough, especially by the first three numbers. Watching the show folks could have dug the combo's professionalism. And watching the show I'm sure most folks thought their hair was not so much long but rather funny looking, "twentysomethings" with kiddie haircuts sort of like Moe of The Three Stooges and TV kids Beaver and Opie.
It's All About Me

- THE 13TH EARL OF BENLU
- City of People, State of Mind, United States
- I'm a Puerto Rican Yankee and a Yankee Puerto Rican, white and mixed. I'm a scholar of race and ethnicity and Hispanic history. I'm a library technician and an English major college. I'm a mid 60s big beat rock fan and a longhair and a non-druggie hippie. I'm an Anti-Christian and a caveman. I'm a nudist, sex maniac and a "friend with benefits" to dark ladies. I've got chips on my shoulders and a heart full of love and hate. To tell the truth, I'm a liar.
